Things to Think About Before Committing to Student Directing
1.) Your Work Schedule -
To be a director you need to be available from 3:30 - 5:30 pm. You need to ensure you have time to run a proper rehearsal as well as about 15 minutes at the end of the rehearsal. This time is for speaking to your fellow director about the rehearsal and any future plans.
2.) Your Class Schedule and Homework -
You will need to manage your class schedule and homework. Being a Student Director is rewarding and enjoyable, however, if you are easily overwhelmed by homework you may want to consider how you plan to organize your time.
3.) Choose your partner wisely -
A best friend may not be the best choice. Ideally, You want to choose someone who you will be able to communicate with and who will communicate with you. THIS IS A COOPERATIVE PROCESS AND YOU NEED TO BE OPEN TO COOPERATING WITH EVERYONE.
4.) Know your strengths and your weaknesses -
If your strengths are artistic but you do not organize well, then you may want a co-director that has strengths organizing.
5.) Talk to Mr. Alexander -
Ask Questions anytime
6.) I have never directed a show... -
This fact will not/should not stop you from trying directing. However, your experience in Theatre Practicum will be considered when you apply. Ideally, you want to have performing experience.
